FDA Food Code
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) publishes its Food Code
as a model to local, state and federal regulators in the development
and updating of their own food safety rules. It also serves as a
conduit to consistency with with federal food regulations, and provides
scientifically sound technical and legal advice for regulating the
retail and food service segment of the industry.
The latest code contains some significant changes, such as added
and updated definitions of terms, information about major food
allergens consistent with the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer
Protection Act of 2004 (FALCPA), and amended date marking practices
for consistency with recommendations in the Listeria monocytogenes
Risk Assessment.
