Rubbermaid Launches New Safety Storage Bin

Newly Improved Ingredient Bin Design Includes First-Of-Its-Kind Dual Position Lid and In-Bin Portion Scoop for Added Functionality, Safety and Productivity

Huntersville, N.C. (May 19, 2007) - Rubbermaid Commercial Products, the leader in innovative safety and productivity solutions for the foodservice industry, introduces a new line of durable ingredient Safety Storage Bins. The storage system revitalizes the company's popular ingredient bins with additional end-user benefits, including two new smaller capacities, dual position lids promoting one-handed operation and an integrated Safety Portioning Scoop.

The patented dual position lids of the Safety Storage Bins are a revolutionary design allowing for stackable units as well as operator placement flexibility within commercial kitchens. The unique one-handed lid operation provides for easy ingredient access by either sliding the clear plastic window lid upward onto the top of the unit or sliding the lid downward from the closed position.

The variable positioning allows kitchen staff convenient access to stored food items when Safety Storage Bins are used in stacks, saving often needed space for other operations. Additionally, the bin design allows for bin placement in areas where space is confined, such as under counters, on shelves and in the store room, where upward moving lids may not be an option.

Another leading design attribute of the Safety Storage Bins is the patent pending scoop hook system allowing storage of the scoop within the bin and out of the product, reducing the risk of cross-contamination. The Safety Storage Bins permit scoops to be safely and securely stored inside the bin without touching contained ingredients, in strict compliance with industry food code requirements.

"The added safety and flexibility of the Safety Storage Bins allow for direct improvements in back-of-house operations," said Virginia Murray, product director, Rubbermaid Commercial Products. "A loaded ingredient bin can be a considerable weight to lift, move and access in the often cramped spaces of a kitchen. We made certain our bin design provided operators with a solution to easy-access and streamlined process improvements in order to quickly integrate this product into existing kitchens and create an immediate impact on food safety, workforce efficiencies and storage."

The Safety Storage Bins are available in 100- or 200-cup capacities guaranteed to hold 25-pound and 50-pound bags of flour, sugar, rice or virtually any kitchen ingredient. Each bin comes equipped with a 2 cup hybrid scoop and measuring cup, also available separately in standard measurement sizes of 3, 4, and 8 cup increments.

An essential part to employee safety is eliminating the need to move heavy ingredients. To address that need, Rubbermaid created an ingredient cart specifically designed to hold the safety storage bins to allow the ease of transport and flow within the kitchen (available November 2007).

Many foodservice operators employ a "first-in/first-out" (FIFO) method to properly stock and use ingredients, helping ensure the appropriate rotation of new product. To help support the "first in/first out" ingredient use and prevent food waste, the Safety Storage Bins can be fitted with a removable FIFO barrier that will keep newly added ingredients towards the back of the storage container and permit access to only "first-in" ingredients. The partition also helps to reduce safety concerns and spoilage by providing a separation of dated ingredients to allow foods with a closer "use by" date to be taken first.

Rubbermaid Commercial Products, a proud sponsor of the International Food Safety Council and dedicated to heightening awareness for the importance of food safety education, offers 2007 NRA show attendees an opportunity to learn more about these new product offerings at NRA booth #1600.
